We do it together

April 12 to
May 12, 2018

For the first time in Mexico City, and following a successful edition in London in 2017, the large-scale exhibition Condo Mexico City will take place starting on April 14th and 15th.
During one month, 22 local galleries will host and share their spaces with 27 international galleries, either carrying out a joint project or presenting two exhibitions in a shared space.

Condo, which derives its name from “condominium” (of the Latin ‘con-’, together, and ‘dominium’, ownership), promotes the re-evaluation of the existing exhibition models by grouping resources and acting communally to propose conditions which foment
experimental exhibitions with international reach.

Condo was founded in London in 2016 by Vanessa Carlos from Carlos/Ishiwaka gallery with the aim of bringing it to five regions around the world: Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and North America. In 2017, the project expanded to New York thanks to the Simone Subal gallery and to Nicole Russo from Chapter NY gallery. In 2018, Condo arrives in Mexico City under the direction of Ana Castella from joségarcia, mx gallery. This year, there will also be an edition in Shanghai directed by Edouard Malingue gallery, and another in São Paulo by Galeria Jaqueline Martins.

In the context of Condo, Machete Gallery hosts Sindicato. Founded in 2015 in the Dominican Republic, Sindicato is a hybrid project directed by artists which combines in one platform the curatorial and commercial possibilities of an art space. Sindicato is currently headed by Laura Castro and Quisqueya Henríquez. Together, Machete and Sindicato collaborated in creating “We Do It Together”, an exhibition by Hulda Guzmán and Natalia Ortega Gámez.

The artists, who are not only colleagues but also close friends, work together to pay homage to friendship as a source of inspiration for this exhibition.
